“Do I worry about achievement? No. I worry about a lot of things, but I don’t worry about achievement. I worry primarily about wether there are nightclubs in heaven.”

With this line, taken directly from an interview with Tom Waits, Ellen Schoenaerts opens her third album, accompanied by her loyal and exceptionally talented bandmates Liesa Van der Aa, Ephraim Cielen, Alban Sarens, and, more recently, Jonas Meersmans. The album is half composed of quirky, whimsical, and comforting songs, while the other half consists of purely instrumental pieces that will be further improvised during live performances. On Friday, January 24, the Ellen Schoenaerts Quintet plans to push harmonic boundaries and return to the acoustic vibe where it all began.
